A neat blog post today.  I know, it doesn’t really pertain to financial planning topics in this blog but I thought it was worth a read:  http://www.jamesaltucher.com/2012/07/10-ways-honesty-makes-you-more-money/

Healthcare tax on investment income

Written on July 5th, 2012 by Jamesno shouts
Although the Healthcare act doesn’t officially spring into action until 2014, beginning Jan 2013 the new taxes on investment income start.  A new 3.8% tax on dividends, interest and capital gains for single filers over $200k or married filers over $250k AGI.  This is on top of the current dividend / ordinary income tax rate.  Right now the dividend tax rate is 15% based on the Bush Tax cuts, this is set to expire this year and will revert to your ordinary income tax rate for 2013.  Add to this the 3.8% surtax and it isn’t pretty!
