So, a lot of folks are scratching their heads wondering where the big gains of the market are this year?  This 4 month chart of the Dow Jones sort of puts in perspective.  A lot of oscillating up and down but in the end no real change in 4 months:

do interest rates really have to go up?

For the past few years just about every economist in America has predicted that interest rates would rise.  And every year they were wrong.  The theory was that there was to much money (liquidity) floating through the system and inflation would begin to kick in requiring the fed to start raising rates, or at least the market would start raising in anticipation of the Fed.  This year we are being told by Janet Yellen and the Federal Reserve Board that rates will go up, possibly by their June meeting.  I see the logic that you can’t keep rates down indefinitely, but I wonder if everyone is expecting rates to go up, will they?   To this, I present a chart comparing US, Germany and Japan 10 year government bond rates.  Hard to see the US rates going up when two of the biggest Central Banks are keeping theirs near 0%.  Anything could happen but it makes you wonder…….
